Sean O'Donnell, small-time villain and loyal family man, walked out on his family nineteen years ago and hasn't been heard of since. Now his daughter Iris has returned to the East End in the hope of finding out what happened. But it isn't going to be easy. Everyone close to Iris, including her mother, seems intent on keeping the truth hidden.

With the rest of her life in a mess, Iris struggles to make sense of her murky family history. But a chance meeting with the mysterious Guy Wilder changes everything. Son of the local criminal matriarch, Guy has plenty of problems of his own but there's something about Iris that makes him more than willing to help her search for the truth.

I thought I would give this a try as I have run out of Martina Cole books to read and have been looking for a new author in the same genre. To be honest I had high expectations as the cover mentions MC and this showed as I started reading. At first I couldn't get into the plot, it seemed a bit slow and I was a bit confused as different characters came in. However I stuck with it and by the end was pleasantly surprised. I did work out the plot about half way through but the conclusion was still adequate. The only think missing really in comparison to MC was the level of sex and violence. Martina Cole books thrive on the heavy violence that's what they're all about, this book is quite tame in that way there are a couple of fights but nothing in MC league which kind of takes away from the whole 'gangland' thing. I will read another one from this author though as the plot was quite good.
