Really nice book and full of things to colour but can be a bit repetitive

...and never be too old to do a bit of colouring in!★ HarperCollinsPublishers Ltd★ March 24th 2016Measuring in around 21.75 cm x 27.75 cm, this is ‘the official colouring book’, for ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, with black & white illustrations by Pauline Baynes (the original artist) replicated; copyright of C. S. Lewis Pte. Ltd.1950-1956 inc).It is a quality book with thick white card covers, with Aslan in the centre and little images from the land of Narnia dotted around. There is gold-coloured, slightly raised embellishment on the front cover including the title and author, which follows through to the spine, glinting in the change of light.Flicking through the first time, it presents more as a reading/activity book, IMO, with excerpts and quotes in large, bold text, capitalised FOR EFFECT and, occasionally, white on black. In most cases, the letters are outlines offering the chance to colour them also to make the words stand out more clearly, as some are hard to read.✤ ‘Then with a ROAR that shook all Narnia from the Western lamp-post to the shores of the eastern sea the great beast flung himself upon the WHITE WITCH.’The 96 pages are of quality, crisp white paper offering full-page pictures to colour, some with a level of intricacy requiring a really sharp point, along with a fair number of ‘pattern repeats’ dancing across one page, sometimes two. Some illustrations span two pages, including the maps and the ‘Plan of the Dawn Treader’, and, at times, it is a bit of a challenge to get to the spine area depending on where you are in the book. The pictures are on both sides of the page and I only use colouring pencils in my books, so cannot comment on bleed-thru from a wet tip. However, it would be possible to test out on the title page, which is the image of Aslan from the front cover as on the back is just the copyright detail along with a wardrobe with closed doors. The very last page of the book is a small image of the wardrobe with the children tumbling out of one side!In between are a dozen pages relevant to each of the seven books, in order of appearance:❅ THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW❅ THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE❅ THE HORSE AND HIS BOY❅ PRINCE CASPIAN❅ THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER❅ THE SILVER CHAIR❅ THE LAST BATTLEEach book begins with a title page in a border, on the right hand side.Choosing material from seven books to present under one cover was always going to be a hard task and I wasn’t sure what to expect from this publication. Everyone has a favourite book or two from the series and, for me, some of the more famous quotes are not here.Having said that, with the original illustrations, I think it will appeal to fans that first fell under the Narnian spell 60 years ago and could help inspire a new generation to go on to read the stories.(My latter images show the book artwork alongside the originals in my copy of ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’).

Not many things to colour in and rather disappointing. When i buy a colouring book, that is what I want. Not great chunks of text.

I'm 14 years old and I've been a Narnia fan for years, so I was delighted when this came out. I've enjoyed Pauline Baynes' illustrations in the stories for years on end, it was great to have them blown up, printed out in a book, and put at my disposal!!! The paper doesn't have the same quality as Johanna Basford or Millie Marotta's books, but it is still fairly thick. However, dark colours of felt pen can show through easily. If you want to colour both sides of the pages, use colouring pencils. I like to display pictures after I colour them in, so I just colour one side of the pages (in other words i just colour half the book). I'd like another copy when I've done half of this book so that I can do the other half!!! All in all, fantastic book, fun to colour, classic illustrations and quotes from the books, and well worth the money. Any Narnia fan will love it and I'd say adults as well as kids would definitely enjoy this!

I recieved my book today, and I do really like it.It is quite similar in style to the Macmillan Alice in wonderland book, that I also have .In that it does have a lot of text and some rather dark pictures. Also there are some quite small pictures of,the characters and such like .I would, have likes a few more illustrations of Aslan as he is my favourite character in the story .Overall I think it's a lovely book to have in my collection as I do like a classic the, themed story .I look forward to more of this type of colouring book .

Arrived tonight. Beautiful book just for the drawings: all original artwork from the books. Or at least the 40 year old editions I have from my childhood! There are scenes from each book, including a title (cover) page. And there are big wordy quotations too. I'm really going to enjoy this one. It almost feels too precious to colour in.
