One Dark Secret. One act of revenge.

When Emma Joseph met her husband David, he was a man shattered by grief. His first wife had been killed outright when her car veered off the road. Just as tragically, their six-year-old daughter mysteriously vanished from the scene of the accident.

Now, six years later, Emma believes the painful years are behind them. She and David have built a new life together and have a beautiful baby son, Ollie.

Then a stranger walks into their lives, and their world tilts on its axis.

Emma's life no longer feels secure. Does she know what really happened all those years ago? And why does she feel so frightened for herself and for her baby?

When a desperate Emma reaches out to her old friend DCI Tom Douglas for help, she puts all their lives in jeopardy. Before long, a web of deceit is revealed that shocks both Emma and Tom to the core.

They say you should never trust a stranger. Maybe they're right.

Another absolutely gripping thriller from Rachel Abbott. Tense, disturbing and nearly made me miss my stop on my commute a couple of times. I realised that I was reading it out of sequence with regard to the life of the detective - but it honestly doesn't matter as Rachel's books don't presume you know everything about a character used before and work perfectly as "stand alone" reads. Can't wait to read Nowhere Child now, which at least will be in the right order for the same characters......

I alway enjoy Rachel Abbott's books but this one in particular, really kept me turning the pages. Believable plot, good characterisation and a thoroughly good read. It made me go on to re-read Nowhere Child (the follow up novella), and it added so much more dimension to that, knowing the back story. If you enjoy this sort of genre and want a good read, look no further.

I started 'Stranger Child' yesterday and was immediately hooked. I read well into the night, and woke up early this morning to finish it. Absolutely brilliant ... as are all of her books. She had me right from 'Only the Innocent' and I only hope that the next one isn't too far away. Thank you so much, Rachel ... please keep the books coming.

What an amazing book! So many twists and turns kept me enthralled from the first page. The author brings her characters to life in such a way as you feel you know them and I'm upset to have finished. This is the first book I've read by Rachel but it definitely won't be the last.If you like thrillers you'll love this I'd definitely recommend it x

Buy this immediately. It is not often you come across a really original plot, but this mystery will keep you guessing right til the final page.

A good read! As a commuter I couldn't wait to get on the train and continue reading this story! Interesting plot, likable characters. I've enjoyed all the books by this author and look forward to reading more in the future.
